Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest and largest free standing mountain in the world. To many people conquering its peak is a life time ambition. Six usual trekking routes to the summit and other more demanding mountaineering routes – the Marangu route being the most popular one. Though the mountain is open all year around, the months of April & May – being the rainy season – are best avoided. The mountain supports a unique combination of eco-climatic zones, and the ascent of the slopes is a virtual climatic world tour, from the tropics to the Arctic. There are a number of hotels in Marangu and Moshi Area that accommodate and cater for mountain climbs.
